Baseball Splits Saturday Twinbill With Colby

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin College baseball team split a doubleheader with Colby on Saturday, inching closer to hosting a NESCAC Quarterfinal round series with the split. The Polar Bears won game one, 7-1, before falling in game two, 7-6, to stand at 13-15 (6-3 NESCAC) this spring.
 
Game One Highlights
  • Bowdoin rode the arm of Jack Mullen to an easy 7-1 victory in Saturday's opener. Mullen tossed a complete game, permitting three hits and no earned runs while striking out six batters.
  • The Polar Bears pieced together a 3-0 lead after three frames thanks to early RBIs from Kevin Murray, Gabe Peckler and Robbie Sarmanian.
  • Bowdoin put the game out of reach with a four-run fifth, loading the bases and getting an RBI walk from Peckler, a fielder's choice RBI from Bobby Pearl and a run-scoring single from Luke Chessie.
  • Ben McKenzie reached base three times, walking twice with two runs scored to lead the Polar Bear offense.
Game Two Highlights
  • Colby rallied from a 6-2 deficit to take the win in game two, 7-6.
  • Bowdoin led 6-2 in the fifth following a Luke Chessie two-run homer, but Colby chipped away at the lead, going ahead on a three-run homer by Cole Palmeri in the top of the seventh.
  • CJ Brito-Trinidad, Chessie, and Nick Merrill all reached base twice for Bowdoin in the loss.
  • Chessie got a no-decision on the mound after going 5.2 frames, permitting four earned runs. Aidan Schraeder took the loss, allowing the go-ahead homer in the seventh.
Up Next
  • The Polar Bears will return to action at Southern Maine on Monday night at 7:00 p.m. before returning home on Friday to open a three-game set against Bates at 3:00 p.m. Bowdoin can secure one of the top two East Division spots, and home NESCAC quarterfinal series, with a pair of wins in the three-game set against the Bobcats.
