BRUNSWICK, Maine – After over 1,000 days, the Bowdoin baseball team returned to Pickard Field for intercollegiate competition and earned a pair of wins over visiting University of Maine-Farmington.
The Polar Bears climb to 7-8 on the season after defeating the Beavers (0-11) 9-2 in the series opener and 9-6 in game two. Bowdoin had not played a home game in 1,067 days and retook the field with a 22 hit day.
Game One Highlights
- Bowdoin went up 2-0 in the bottom of the first as Bobby Pearl hit an RBI double to left and CJ Brito-Trinidad followed up with an RBI double to left center.
- A pair of RBI singles in the third made it 4-0 in favor of the Polar Bears. Gavin Cann and Kevin Murray both drove in runs.
- Bowdoin put up five runs in the fourth to put the game out of reach. Luke Chessie, Pearl, and Robbi Sarmanian all had RBI singles and Brito-Trinidad added an run producing double. Cann grounded out to second, but plated Pearl.
- UMF scored a pair of runs in the sixth to conclude the game's scoring.
- Pearl, Brito-Trinidad, and Sarmanian all had doubles.
- Ben McKenzie and Cann both had a stolen base.
- Jack Mullen earned the win, allowing seven hits with six strikeouts.
Game Two Highlights
- The Beavers quickly put two runs on the board in the top of the first as Ryan Sargent blasted a homer over the right field fence with a runner on base.
- Bowdoin responded with four runs in the bottom half of the inning. Brito-Trinidad singled through the left side to drive in a run.
- Cann continued his strong day at the plate with a double down the right field line that drove in two runs. Sarmanian wrapped the inning with an RBI single through the right side.
- Cann continued to produce with another two-runI double in the second.
- Murray hit a solo homerun in the fifth to make it 7-2.
- Bowdoin scored its final runs of the game in the sixth inning off RBI singles from Stephen Simoes and Chessie.
- Farmington rallied in the seventh and scored four runs before Bowdoin could finally close out the game.
- Peal was 3-for-4at the plate and Cann was 2-for-3 with four RBI and two doubles.
- Simoes threw out a runner at second on a steal attempt.
- Jason Bogdanos pitched five innings and allowed five hits with seven strikeouts.
