LEWISTON, Maine – The Bowdoin College softball team split a Friday doubleheader at Bates, losing a high-scoring opener, 9-8, before bouncing back to win the nightcap, 8-2.
With the decisions, Bowdoin stands at 11-13 (1-7 NESCAC) this spring.
Game One Highlights
- Bates scored six runs in the final three innings to rally from a 8-3 deficit to win game one, 9-8.
- Bowdoin took a commanding 8-2 lead after two and a half innings with the big blow coming via an Angelina Mayers grand slam in the second inning.
- JK Bradley also connected for her first collegiate home run, as well, to build the Polar Bear lead.
- Bates scored three in the fifth inning to cut the lead to 8-6, and then scored the game-winning runs following a Bowdoin error on a two-run base hit with two outs in the seventh.
- Kasey Cunningham, Mayers, Lilly Armstrong and JK Bradley all had two hits for the Polar Bears.
Game Two Highlights
- Shea Sullivan quieted the Bates bats in game two, tossing a complete game and allowing just two earned runs to lead Bowdoin to the win.
- Bowdoin held a slim 3-2 lead heading into the sixth, but plated four runs to put the game out of reach.
- Mayers delivered the big hit again, with a three-run double to spark the rally.
- Mayers finished 3-5 with two runs and three RBI. Karlye Pallotta and Katryna Dukehart had two hits apiece as well.
