Brito-Trinidad Hits Walkoff Homer As Baseball Topples Tufts

BRUNSWICK, Maine – CJ Brito-Trinidad hit a walk-off home run in the ninth inning to lift the Bowdoin baseball team to a 3-2 win over Tufts on Friday afternoon.
 
The Polar Bears (9-13, 2-2 NESCAC), never trailed the Jumbos (17-4, 4-2 NESCAC) and held a one-run lead from the first inning to the top of the eighth.
 
Game Highlights
  • Miles Reid drove in the game's first run, singling up the middle, as Ozzie Fleischer had hit a leadoff double and scored from second.
  • Ben McKenzie also hit a leadoff double and advanced to third on a wild pitch, for the Polar Bears. Stephen Simoes singled to center and drove in McKenzie.
  • Gavin Cann recorded Bowdoin's second RBI of the inning with a single up the middle that plated Simoes.
  • Bowdoin left seven runners on base through the next seven innings.
  • Tufts tied the game in the top of the eighth. Jimmy Evans led off the inning with a double to center and advanced to third on a groundout. Peter DeMaria singled to left and drove in the game-tying run.
  • With one out and no one on base, Brito-Trinidad hit a walk-off homer over the left field fence to secure the win for Bowdoin.
 
By the Numbers
  • Andrew Cohen pitched the first 2.2 innings and allowed five hits and one run, while fanning three. Aidan Schraeder closed out the inning and pitched another complete inning without allowing a hit.
  • Luke Chessie pitched the final five innings and allowed three hits and one run. Chessie compiled six strikeouts.
  • McKenzie went 2-for-5 at the plate with a double.
  • Brito-Trinidad was 3-for-4 with the game winning homer.
  • Simoes and Cann were both 2-for-4.
