Men's Lacrosse Rolls Wesleyan in Nationally-Ranked Battle To Remain Unbeaten

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Bowdoin College men's lacrosse team got off to a quick start and held off a late Wesleyan rally to remain unbeaten in a 16-10 win on Saturday afternoon. In a battle of nationally ranked teams, the 19th-ranked Polar Bears improve to 7-0 (4-0 NESCAC) for the first time since 1989 while the 15th-ranked Cardinals fall to 5-2 (1-2 NESCAC).
 
Game Highlights
  • After allowing the game's first goal to the Cardinals, the Polar Bears took command with an 8-1 run, sparked by five goals from Jason Lach.
  • Following a quick 3-0 run by the Cardinals, the Polar Bears recovered with a three-goal surge of their own, taking an 11-4 edge into the break thanks to a goal by Patrick Fitzgerald in the final minute of the quarter.
  • The teams traded goals in a 3-3 third quarter, but Wesleyan opened the final frame with three unanswered scores that trimmed the Bowdoin led to 14-10 with 7:06 to go.
  • A few big defensive stops helped steady the Polar Bears and back-to-back goals by Zach Chandler and Donal Mullane pushed the lead back to six goals as Bowdoin walked away with the win.

  • Jason Lach was unstoppable in the first half, scoring five goals and an assist in the 8-0 run by the Polar Bears.
  • Will Byrne had two goals and five assists while Donal Mullane also scored twice with four assists.
  • Goaltender Robert Hobbs was outstanding, making 18 saves in a stellar effort while Peter Kenerson had a pair of caused turnovers and two ground balls in the win.
  • Bowdoin went 2-4 with the extra man in the game and out-shot the Cardinals by a decisive 81-47 margin in the contest.
