AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The Bowdoin baseball team closed out its 2022 spring break trip on a three game skid and looks to return to the win column back in New England.
The Polar Bears come home with a 5-8 record after falling 19-4 against Dartmouth, 11-8 to Middlebury, and 5-3 to Keuka.
Dartmouth Game Highlights
- The Big Green went ahead 3-0 in the first three innings, but Bowdoin took the lead with a big fourth.
- Bobby Pearl scored on a wild pitch and an error allowed CJ Brito-Trinidad to score later. Another error allowed Gabe Peckler to score and Robbi Sarmanian grounded into a double play, but still managed to plate a run.
- Dartmouth took control of the rest of the game, including a ten run sixth inning.
- Bowdoin's pitchers combined for just one strikeout, coming from Michael Weber on the mound.
Middlebury Game Highlights
- Bowdoin scored a run in each of the first three innings, but the Panthers matched with runs in the first, third, and fourth.
- Luke Chessie had a first inning RBI and Kevin Murray hit a solo homerun in the second. Ben McKenzie came home on a wild pitch in the third.
- The Polar Bears took a 7-4 lead in the fifth. Brito-Trinidad singled with the bases loaded and cleared the basepath thanks to a Panthers error.
- Gavin Cann plated Brito-Trinidad with a single.
- The Panthers took their first lead of the game with eight runs between the sixth and seventh innings.
- Bowdoin pushed one more across the plate in the eighth on another error.
- Jack Mullen pitched the complete game and struck out five.
- Stephen Simoes and McNamara both had doubles.
Keuka Game Highlights
- The Wolves and Polar Bears played four scoreless innings before McKenzie hit a solo shot over the left field fence.
- Keuka took the lead with a two run double in the sixth and another double in the eighth.
- The Wolves final two runs came in the ninth with a two run single.
- Bowdoin tried to mount a comeback in the bottom half of the ninth and scored a pair of runs, but couldn't close the gap. McKenzie and Chris Dirks both had RBI.
- Luke Chessie started on the mound and gave up seven hits with five strikeouts and two walks.
- Connor Cassady and Jacob Warren closed out the final 2.1 innings and combined for four hits allowed.
