POMONA, Calif. – Bowdoin women's tennis head coach
Ben Lamanna earned his first win at the helm of the Polar Bears in a 7-2 victory over WashU in the team's second match of spring break.
Despite being hired over two years ago, Lamanna was unable to coach a dual match until this March, due to COVID timing. The Polar Bears began the spring season with a 6-3 setback to Sewanee before picking up the win against WashU.
Sewanee Match Highlights
- Despite trailing 3-0 after doubles, Bowdoin battled back to secure three singles wins.
- Jamilah Karah dropped her first set but came back to win (3-6, 6-4, 6-0) at #1 singles.
- Evelyn Safar won at #2 in straight sets (6-4, 6-4).
- Hannah Buckhout won a three-setter at #5 after dropping the first set (4-6, 6-1, 6-3).
WashU Match Highlights
- Bowdoin swept doubles play to go ahead 3-0.
- Karah and Safar won 8-6 at #1, while Buckhhout and Elizabeth Yu went 8-4 at #3.
- Fleming Landau and Julia Deluca battled to an 8-7 (7-4) win at #2.
- Yu and Buckhout cruised in the middle of the lineup and secured (6-1, 6-1) and (6-2, 6-1) victories respectively.
- Landau secured a (6-2, 6-3) win at #5, while Safar battled for a two set win (6-3, 7-5) at #2.
