BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Hamilton College women's lacrosse team came away with a slim 8-7 win in a wet battle against Bowdoin on Saturday at Ryan Field. The 20
th-ranked Continentals improve to 2-0 (2-0 NESCAC) while the 18
th-ranked Polar Bears fall to 1-2 (0-1 NESCAC) on the season.
Game Highlights
- The teams played an incredibly tight contest in a torrential downpour in Brunswick, with neither team taking more than a one-goal lead until late in the third quarter.
- There were four tie scores in the first half as the teams swapped the lead. Back-to-back goals by Clarissa Hurley gave Hamilton a 4-3 edge with 5:11 remaining in the half, but Bowdoin's Fiona Bundy knotted the score with 11 seconds left before halftime, making it 4-4 at the break.
- Hamilton scored four goals in the third quarter to take a two-goal lead on Alana King's score with 4:00 to go in the period, giving the visitors their largest lead of the game at 8-6.
- Colleen McAloon trimmed the lead to a single goal with 2:05 left in the third quarter, making it 8-7 heading to the fourth.
- Bowdoin tied the game on Sophia Sudano's second goal of the contest at 10:06, but Hamilton answered quickly at 9:17 with Olivia Seymour's go-ahead score.
- The Polar Bears had three shots on goal over the final 8:19, but couldn't find the equalizer.
By The Numbers
- Fiona Bundy, Sophia Sudano and Lauren Burke each had two goals for Bowdoin.
- Lauren Hamilton, Clarissa Hurley and Olivia Seymour scored twice each for Hamilton.
- In addition to her two goals, Fiona Bundy had four groundballs, four draw controls and two caused turnovers for the Polar Bears while Corinne Lamond had three groundballs and two caused turnovers.
- Izzy Cisneros made seven saves in 45 minutes in goal for Bowdoin, allowing eight goals. Sophia Rutman saved two and permitted one goal in the final 15 minutes.
- Hamilton had four goalies split time, combining for 11 saves.
