HARTFORD, Conn. – For the first time in program history, the Bowdoin College men's squash team has advanced to the New England Small College Athletic Conference championship.
On Saturday, the third-seeded Polar Bears defeated sixth-seeded Colby 6-3 in the quarterfinals and then eliminated seventh-seeded Middlebury in the semifinals 7-2 to advance to Sunday's title match. The Polar Bears will face powerhouse Trinity in the finals at 1pm.
Colby Match Highlights
- The bottom of the ladder was the difference as the Polar Bears advanced through the NESCAC Quarterfinals with a 6-3 triumph.
- Bowdoin earned wins at spots five through nine to clinch the win as Nick Wilkinson, John Milligan, Carson Claar, Henry Somerby and Neil Bam collected victories.
- Deven Kanwal polished off a 3-0 win at the number two spot to round out the Polar Bear winners.
- The win was the second for the year by Bowdoin over the Mules. The Polar Bears defeated Colby in the regular season, 8-1, on January 19.
Middlebury Match Highlights
- The Polar Bears advanced to the finals with a 7-2 win over Middlebury, who had upset second-seeded Tufts earlier in the day.
- Bowdoin overwhelmed the Panthers, with the bottom of the ladder again carrying the Polar Bears, who swept positions number four through nine.
- Nick Wilkinson, Carson Claar, and Neil Bam notched 3-0 sweeps for Bowdoin.
- Adham Sobhy, Henry Somerby, and Deven Kanwal took 3-1 wins and John Milligan capped the day with a 3-2 win at number six.
