Women's Hoops Posts Perfect Road Weekend With Win at WPI

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin College women's basketball team overwhelmed Worcester Polytechnic Institute on Sunday afternoon, 56-44, to complete a perfect 2-0 road weekend. The Polar Bears stand at 5-1 overall this season while WPI drops to 5-2.
 
Game Highlights
  • Bowdoin rattled off a 7-0 run to start the game, capped by an Annie Boasberg three-pointer, before WPI rallied to trim the lead to three points. The Polar Bears responded with eight unanswered, sparked by a Sela Kay trifecta, to take a 15-4 lead and a 15-9 margin after one period.
  • The Engineers had the hot hand early in the second quarter, narrowing the lead to 16-13, but Bowdoin closed the quarter on an 8-2 surge, taking a nine-point (28-19) advantage into halftime.
  • The Polar Bears ballooned their lead to 14 points early in the third quarter, capitalizing on three straight points from Kay to make it 33-19.
  • Leading 40-30 heading into the fourth, Bowdoin scored seven unanswered points, capped by a Carly Davey midway through the frame and led by as many as 15 points en route to the win.

  • Bowdoin's defense suffocated the Engineers, as the Polar Bears held WPI to 32% shooting, including 3-20 (15%) from long range.
  • Sydney Jones led all scorers with 14 points, adding five rebounds while Megan Tan added 11 points and four boards and Sela Kay scored nine.
  • Annie Boasberg collected seven rebounds and four steals, while Jess Giorgio also added seven boards.
  • The Polar Bears finished with a 40-29 edge in rebounding, including 16 offensive boards.
  • Bowdoin also forced 19 turnovers in the victory, scoring 26 points off turnovers.
