BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin women's hockey team rallied twice but was unable to hold off the Mules in a 3-2 game on Friday evening.
The Polar Bears sit at 2-3-0 (1-2-0 NESCAC) as Colby remains perfect (4-0-0, 1-0-0 NESCAC).
Game Highlights
- After a scoreless first period, the Mules stepped up their offensive pressure in the second. Two minutes into the frame, Jillian Mazzocca made three consecutive close-range attempts to best Dani Marquez but could not find the net.
- At 5.56, Colby went ahead 1-0. Anna Staton started the play with a point-to-point pass from right to left. Klara Jandusikova fired a shot from the left point and Marquez made an initial set. Abby Wick jumped on the puck and put it away at the near post.
- Just seven seconds into a third period power play, the Polar Bears found an equalizer. Sara Ito-Bagshaw fired a shot from the left point and Zoe Wilson slid the puck center to Gia Massari. Massari shoveled a shot through traffic.
- Five minutes later, midway through the frame, Colby regained the lead. Meg Rittenhouse won the faceoff on the right dot and the puck went back to Jo Tattersall. Tattersall fired a shot from just inside the blue line with Rittenhouse deflected it through the slot.
- Bowdoin scored its second power play goal of the period at 13:25. Elsa Cassidy passed from the right point to Peyton Mulhern on the left. Mulhern took a shot and this time Brett Stoddard deflected in the equalizer.
- Colby again found a rebuttal three minutes later. Mazzocca won the puck off the boards in neutral territory and connected with Stephanie Lane going into the zone. Lane carried down the right side and pulled across the goal face to best Marquez on the far side.
By the Numbers
- Bowdoin went a perfect 2-for-2 on the power play.
- Colby was 0-for-1 on the shortened end of game power play.
- Marquez made 32 saves, including 15 in the second period.
- Paige Bolyard made 19 stops for Colby.
