Men's Hoops Ends Semester on Winning Note With Road Victory at Husson

BANGOR, Maine – The Bowdoin College men's basketball team rallied in the second half to defeat Husson on Sunday afternoon, 61-54. The Polar Bears finish their first semester with a record of 5-6 while the Eagles fall to 3-6 this season.
 
Game Highlights
  • Both teams struggled from the field in the opening half as the squads went into halftime deadlocked at 25-25.
  • A 10-0 run by the Eagles, capped by a three-pointer from Justice Kendall, gave the hosts a commanding 37-28 lead with 16 minutes remaining.
  • Bowdoin chipped away at the lead with a 9-1 run later in the half, tying the contest on a free throw from Nolan Bessire, 48-48 with 5:57 to go.
  • The teams traded buckets and entered the final minute of play tied again at 54 apiece, but Bowdoin's James McGowan delivered a three-pointer to put the Polar Bears ahead for good.
  • After a Husson turnover, another jumper by McGowan gave Bowdoin a 59-54 edge with 15 seconds left and Alex Halpern sealed the win with a steal and layup to make it a 61-54 final.
By The Numbers
  • McGowan ended a sensational first semester of play with a 24-point, six-rebound, two-steal effort that including 6-8 from three-point range.
  • Bessire contributed ten points off the bench for Bowdoin, who also got nine points from Michael Simonds. Xander Werkman finished with eight rebounds to lead the team.
  • Bowdoin shot 35% from the field while Husson connected on 38%.
  • The Polar Bears forced 17 turnovers, however, which they converted into 18 points.
