Men's Hoops Closes Out 2022 With Home Victory Over Maine Maritime

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin College men's basketball team dominated the second half of an 80-51 win over Maine Maritime on Saturday afternoon in Morrell Gymnasium. The Polar Bears move to 6-6 this season with the win while the Mariners drop to 4-4 overall.

  • Bowdoin jumped to an early lead but couldn't pull away from the scrappy Mariners in the opening half.
  • The Polar Bears led by as many as seven in the opening stanza, but MMA used a 6-0 surge midway through the frame to take a 14-11 edge at the 12:30 mark.
  • Bowdoin was able to rebound, and used a quick 4-0 spurt before intermission to take a 30-26 lead at the break following a Xander Werkman layup.
  • The second half was an entirely different story as the Polar Bears shot 59% from the field, including 6-7 three-pointers to pull away.
  • James McGowan scored 12 early points and Alex Halpern added ten as Bowdoin forced eight turnovers and held MMA to 34% from the field en route to outscoring the visitors 50-25 in the second half.

  • Bowdoin held a 49-35 edge in rebounding.
