SENIOR DAY
In a pregame ceremony, Bowdoin will honor 18 members of its senior class who will be playing in their final collegiate game under the lights on Saturday evening. Bowdoin parents are asked to gather behind the Polar Bear sideline shortly after 5:00 p.m. for the ceremony that will begin promptly at 5:15. Â
LAST WEEK
Bowdoin nearly doubled Amherst's offensive yardage, but were victimized by three interceptions and great starting field position for the Mammoths in a 17-14 setback. Amherst didn't have a drive longer than 30 yards all game, and the Polar Bears couldn't hold on to a second-half lead in the loss. Last weekend in Waterville, Tufts dominated from start to finish of a 35-7 win over the Mules.Â
CBB UPDATE
With a win over Bates earlier this season, Colby can clinch its fourth straight CBB (Colby-Bates-Bowdoin) championship with a win over Bowdoin. The Polar Bears will look to make it a three-way split in the state series for the first time since 2011. Â
POLAR BEAR LEADERS Â
Bowdoin ranks sixth in the league in total offense (298.9 yards/game) and seventh in total defense (357.8 yards/game), but despite being second in the league in time of possession (33:04/game) has converted on 53% of their red zone visits into scores, which ranks last in the league.
Andre Eden ranks second in the league with 534 yards rushing and seven touchdowns. Â Defensively,
Drew Ortiz is third in the league with 11.0 tackles for loss. With a win, Bowdoin would have three victories in a season for the first time since 2013.Â
SCOUTING THE MULES
Colby's offense stands eighth in the NESCAC in total yards (276.3/game) but has boasted the fourth-best defense (324.0 yards/game) on the year. Offensively, quarterback Matt Hersch is fifth in the conference in total offense (173 yards rushing, 1,462 passing). Julian Young is second in the conference with 85 total tackles this season while Nick Donatio is tied for second with three interceptions. With a victory, Colby would have its first winning season since 2005.Â
LAST MEETING
Last year in Waterville, Colby scored 21 unanswered points in the final 15 minutes to rally past Bowdoin, 21-10. A pair of fourth-quarter touchdown runs by Hersch proved to be the difference in the game. Eden rushed for 98 yards in the loss for Bowdoin.Â
BOWDOIN vs. COLBY - ALL TIME
At 132 meetings, the Bowdoin-Colby game dates back to 1892 and is the third-longest rivalry in Division III football, standing behind only Williams-Amherst (134) and Kalamazoo-Albion (133). The Polar Bears won eight straight to open the series history from 1892-1896, and hold a 70-53-9 overall edge. Colby has controlled the series of late, winning the last six meetings. Bowdoin's last victory over the Mules came in 2015 at Whittier Field.Â
