Men's Basketball Tames Huskies For First Victory of the Season

GORHAM, Maine – The Bowdoin College men's basketball team earned its first win of the young season, sprinting past the University of Southern Maine on Thursday night, 75-57. The Polar Bears move to 1-2 while the Huskies fall to 3-1.
 
Game Highlights
  • The Huskies jumped to an early 15-5 lead, pushing the lead to double digits midway through the opening half before a late Bowdoin surge gave the visitors command of the game.
  • Sparked by back-to-back three-pointers from Michael Simonds, Bowdoin outscored USM 24-3 over the final seven minutes of the first half to carry a 35-23 lead into the break.
  • James McGowan and Simonds combined for 28 of Bowdoin's 35  points in the opening 20 minutes of the game.
  • Bowdoin continued to roll in the second half, maintaining their double-digit lead throughout and pushing their advantage to as many as 19 points on their way to the win.
By The Numbers
  • James McGowan finished with a double-double, scoring 25 points and grabbing 11 rebounds in the win while Simonds finished with a team-high 26 points and five boards.
  • Jack Shea contributed seven points off the bench for the Polar Bears.
  • Bowdoin finished at 41% shooting for the game and held a 41-32 edge on the glass, converting 15 second-chance points.
  • The Polar Bears also forced 18 turnovers, had 12 steals and scored 20 points off USM turnovers in the win.
