Women's Hoops Earns Win in Phelps' Debut as Head Coach

DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Bowdoin's Megan Phelps earned her first career win as head coach as the Polar Bear women's basketball team netted a season-opening 58-47 win over St. Lawrence University on Saturday evening at the Lafrance Hospitality Tournament at UMass Dartmouth. The Polar Bears move to 1-0 while the Saints fall to 0-1.
 
Game Highlights
  • Bowdoin opened the game hot from the field, outscoring the Saints 15-6 in the opening moments of the contest.
  • The Polar Bears carried a 28-20 lead into intermission and still held a 43-36 lead after three quarters thanks to a late three-pointer from Tori Beck to end the period.
  • A jumper by Annie Boasberg followed by a three-pointer from Megan Tan pushed Bowdoin's lead to double figures, 48-36, with 8:06 to go.
  • St. Lawrence could get no closer than nine points for the remainder of the game as Bowdoin led by as many as 15 points down the stretch.

  • Megan Tan scored a team-high 15 points while Callie Godfrey had a double-double with 11 points and ten rebounds.
  • Sydney Jones scored 10 points with six boards and three steals for Bowdoin while Annie Boasberg pitched in nine points.
  • Bowdoin held St. Lawrence to just 29% shooting for the game, and owned a 45-39 edge in rebounding.
