Coetzer Scores Late to Lift Field Hockey to 1-0 Win at Trinity

HARTFORD, Conn. – The Bowdoin field hockey team picked up a key 1-0 win over Trinity with a fourth quarter goal on Saturday afternoon.
 
The Polar Bears (7-3, 2-3 NESCAC) begin the double league game weekend with momentum. The Bantams (9-2, 5-2 NESCAC) only previous loss came last week against Tufts.
 
Game Highlights
  • The only two shots of the first quarter game from the Bantams, but neither made its way through to Julia Arsenault.
  • Bowdoin jumped into the second with a pair of quick shots from Olivia Cunningham.
  • Despite the Bantams earning three penalty corners, the Bowdoin defense only allowed one shot and Georgie Coetzer made a defensive save to preserve a scoreless tie.
  • Trinity controlled play in the third and Coetzer made another defensive save on a corner. Arsenault made a pair of stops during the frame.
  • Bowdoin's first corner of the final quarter produced the game's lone goal. With six minutes remaining, Caroline Higgins inserted the ball to Faith Jennings. Jennings stopped the ball and fed Coetzer who fired a shot through Trinity's defense.
  • Trinity had a shot in the final two minutes, but Arsenault made the save to preserve the shutout. The defense held firm during one final corner.

  • Bowdoin held a slight 11-10 edge in shots.
  • The Polar Bears survived 11 penalty corners and managed to score on one of their two opportunities.
  • Arsenault made three saves and Coetzer had a pair of defensive saves.
