Men's Soccer Earns Top Seed for NESCAC Playoffs After Tuesday Tie At Tufts

MEDFORD, Mass. – The Bowdoin men's soccer team concluded the regular season with a return to its shutout ways with a 0-0 tie at Tufts on Tuesday evening.
 
With the result, Bowdoin (11-1-3, 6-1-3) has clinched first place in the NESCAC regular season standings for the first time since 2010 and will be the top seed for the upcoming conference tournament. Connecticut College has secured the eighth-place spot and final bid to the conference tournament and the Polar Bears will host the Camels (7-5-3, 3-5-2) in a NESCAC Quarterfinal match on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. The Jumbos are 7-2-6 (3-2-5 NESCAC) to conclude the regular season.
 
Game Highlights
  • While Tufts owned a 6-3 shot advantage in the first half, Bowdoin earned five corner kick opportunities in the first 45 minutes of play. Despite a combined nine shots between both teams, neither goalie recorded a save.
  • The Jumbos ramped up the offensive pressure in the second half and fired off ten shots and challenged Michael Webber with four.
  • Tufts earned four corner kicks to Bowdoin's one.
  • Bowdoin's lone shot on goal came off a header by Charlie Ward in the 57th minute.

  • Tufts ultimately held a 16-4 shot advantage. The Jumbos controlled a slight 7-6 edge in corner kcks.

  • Bowdoin will be the top seed for the 2022 NESCAC Tournament and will host the eighth seed Connecticut College at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday at Pickard Field. The complete NESCAC Tournament field will be announced on Wednesday, following the completion of the Trinity-Amherst game, which has no effect on Bowdoin's first-round pairing. The Polar Bears are the top seed in the tourney for the third time overall (2010, 2002) and will be looking for their third NESCAC Championship.
