BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin field hockey team earned a 5-1 win against visiting Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon.
The Polar Bears (10-4, 5-4 NESCAC) scored goals in every quarter and tallied two in the final frame. Wesleyan (4-10, 1-8 NESCAC) converted on a penalty corner in the fourth.
Game Highlights
- Bowdoin went ahead 1-0 as Faith Jennings worked the ball into the circle up the left side. Jennings centered a pass to Sophia Rosati in front of the net. Rosati laid her stick down and deflected the ball in at 6:20.
- The Polar Bears scored six minutes into the second quarter, this time with Jill Cloonan on the stroke line deflecting a deep right corner feed from Maya Malenfant.
- Rosati had her second goal of the game early in the third as Jennings crossed a ball from the left side through traffic. Rosati put it over the goal line from the right post with a tap in.
- Jennings again worked the left side line and carried into the circle, this time finding Mackay Bommer with the cross 28 seconds into the fourth.
- Georgie Coetzer closed out the scoring for Bowdoin with a blast four minutes later.
- Wesleyan spoiled the shutout with a corner goal with five minutes remaining. The insert came out to the top to Imani Ochieng. Ochieng passed back and forth with Helen Deretchin at the top of the circle before sweeping a shot toward net. Diana Schwarz got the toe of the stick on the ball and tipped it up into the net.
By the Numbers
- Bowdoin outshot the Cardinals by a 15-11 margin.
- The Polar Bears held a slight 10-6 edge in penalty corners.
- Julia Arsenault made five saves in 53 minutes of play. Delaney Bashaw made a pair of stops in the final seven minutes.
- Audrey Pace made seven stops for Wesleyan.
