MEDFORD, Mass. – The Bowdoin field hockey team wrapped up the regular season with a 3-2 overtime victory over Tufts on Tuesday evening.
With the victory, Bowdoin (11-4, 6-4 NESCAC) has earned the sixth seed for the upcoming NESCAC Tournament and will travel to Trinity for a conference quarterfinal game on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. The Jumbos (10-5, 7-3 NESCAC) are the two seed.
Game Highlights
- Tufts took the lead midway through the first quarter after converting on a penalty corner drive from the top right side of the circle.
- The Polar Bears evened the score just 45 seconds into the second half. Almira Arnold restarted the ball from just outside the 25 and drove the ball to Jill Cloonan in the circle. Cloonan spun and put the ball in the back of the net.
- Bowdoin took the lead later in the quarter with two minutes remaining. Caroline Higgins inserted to Georgie Coetzer on a penalty corner. Coetzer fired a shot on goal that Higgins tipped in front of the goalie's foot.
- The Jumbos tallied their own equalizer with three minutes to play in the third. Again, the goal came on a penalty corner.
- Bowdoin controlled the ball in the first overtime frame but managed only one shot. Tufts fired off a dangerous shot that narrowly missed wide in the 69th minute. Julia Arsenault came up with a massive slide tackle stick save to deny a cross from the goal line near the right post.
- Faith Jennings came up with the game-winner 1:30 into the second overtime period. The play started with Coetzer who took advantage of a restart from just outside the 25 to find Maya Malenfant on the dotted line. Malenfant sent a pass through to Jennings who beat a defender to the ball, spun, and backhanded a shot into the net.

- Bowdoin won its first overtime game of the season, despite Tufts holding a slight 9-8 edge in shots. The Polar Bears owned a 6-5 advantage in shots on goal.
- The Jumbos earned five penalty corners and converted on two. The Polar Bears had a pair of penalty corners and scored on their first of the game.
- Arsenault made three saves for Bowdoin. Sam Gibby also made three saves for Tufts.
