LAST WEEK
Bowdoin was victimized by a pair of big plays in a 21-14 setback at Bates, their fourth straight loss since a season-opening win over Hamilton. The Cardinals held off Tufts, 26-22, for their third straight win since a week two loss to Middlebury.Â
POLAR BEAR LEADERS Â
Despite their 1-4 mark, Bowdoin statistically ranks in the top half of the conference in both total offense (333.2 yards/game) and total defense (332.2 yards/game). Tailback
Andre Eden leads the NESCAC in rushing (361 yards) while
Andrew Boel is third in the conference in passing (231.4 yards/game). Defensively,
Max Jacobs is 11th in the league in tackles (34), and leads the league in tackles for loss (8.0).
Koy Price is tied for the league lead with two interceptions. Bowdoin's achilles heel has been in the red zone, where they stand last in the league with nine scores in 18 trips inside the opponent's 20.Â
SCOUTING THE CARDINALS
Wesleyan's potent offense is first in the league in scoring (31.4 points/game) and second in total yardage (439.4 yards/game). The Cardinals average over 300 yards passing per game and have three different quarterbacks who are averaging 100+ yards per contest through the air. Logan Tomlinson has been the top target, catching a league-best 37 balls for 496 yards. Nick Helbig is second in the conference with five sacks on the year while Danny Banks is tied for the league lead with two interceptions this fall. The Cardinals have been solid in the red zone, scoring in 17/21 tries while allowing just nine scores in 17 opposing trips. Wesleyan is the most penalized team in the NESCAC (8.0 penalties, 66.0 yards/game).Â
LAST MEETING
Last year in Connecticut, the teams played a wild game in Middletown, with Wesleyan prevailing in a 38-35 shootout. The Cardinals scored the go-ahead touchdown with 1:06 remaining to come away with the win.Â
BOWDOIN vs. WESLEYAN - ALL TIME
In 93 meetings between the schools, the Cards lead the all-time series 62-29-2 and have claimed 11 of the last 12 meetings. Bowdoin's last victory over Wesleyan came at Whittier Field in 2011 in a 12-6 victory.
