Two Second Half Goals Lift Men's Soccer Past Colby

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin College men's soccer team scored a pair of second half goals to dispatch Colby, 2-0, in a NESCAC contest at Pickard Field on Wednesday afternoon. The win moves the Polar Bears to 10-1-2 (5-1-2) and into a tie for first place in the conference standings. Colby drops to 4-3-7 (1-3-5 NESCAC).
 
Game Highlights
  • Both teams had excellent scoring chances in a scoreless first half.
  • Bowdoin's best chance came in the 32nd minute when Mateo Pacelli came loose behind the Colby defense and toed a shot that was deflected away by Colby netminder Matt Morin.
  • Colby had an outstanding chance with a minute remaining in the half when a through-ball came to Mario Simoes behind the Bowdoin defense. With an open look at the net, Dylan Reid recovered and made a diving slide to deflect Simoes' shot and keep the game scoreless at the break.
  • Bowdoin got on the board early in the second half after Julian Juantorena drew a Colby foul in the penalty area. Carlton Steinberg stepped up and deposited the penalty kick into the back of the net for a 1-0 lead at 47:40.
  • The Polar Bears put the contest away in the 76th minute when Reid a collected the ball outside the box and lofted a pass to Minseo Bae. Bae headed the ball inside the left post for a 2-0 Bowdoin lead.

  • Michael Webber made five stops in Bowdoin's sixth straight shutout as the Polar Bears extended their shutout streak to 582:19.
  • Bowdoin controlled the pace of play through most of the contest, but Colby had a late flurry of shots to hold an 11-8 shot advantage for the match.
  • Bae's goal was his second of the season and second of his career against the Mules. He scored the overtime game-winner in Waterville last fall against Colby.
  • Bowdoin moves to 5-1-1 in their last seven meetings against the Mules.
