BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin field hockey team picked up a key 2-1 victory over visiting Hamilton on Saturday afternoon.

The Polar Bears and Continentals sport matching 8-4 overall records. Bowdoin is 3-4 in conference, while Hamilton is 4-4.

Game Highlights
  • Neither team recorded a shot in the opening quarter of play.
  • The only shot of the entire first half came with four minutes remaining in the second frame. Faith Jennings took a feed from the right side and looked to sweep in from the left. Abby Griffin made a diving save to deny Jennings at the goal line.
  • Bowdoin broke through three minutes into the third quarter. Caroline Higgins sent a penalty corner insert to Georgie Coetzer at the top of the circle Coetzer blasted a shot through Hamilton's defense.
  • Two minutes later, Jill Cloonan doubled the goal tally. Cloonan carried in from the right side and started moving center. The leftie reverse swept a shot as she came across.
  • Hamilton pulled within one goal in the final 3:26 of play. Delaney Grace picked the ball off a Bowdoin defender inside the Polar Bear 25. Grace entered the circle and chipped a close range shot past the goalie's blocker to make it 2-1.
  • The Continentals pulled their goalie in the final three minutes in favor of an additional attacker. While Bowdoin remained pinned within its own half of the field, Hamilton was unable to find an equalizer.

  • Griffin recorded a pair of saves. Julia Arsenault did not record a save but made several moves to cut off Hamilton plays before a shot could develop.
  • Hamilton took two shots in the game, while Bowdoin took four. All four of Bowdoin's shots went on net and Hamilton's last shot of the game was blocked by the corner defensive unit.
