Men's Hockey Ties 2-2 At Amherst

AMHERST, Mass. – The Bowdoin men's ice hockey team allowed a late third period equalizer and skated to a 2-2 overtime tie at Amherst on Sunday afternoon.
 
The Polar Bears are 2-4-2 (2-2-1 NESCAC) on the season. The Mammoths sit at 2-6-1 (1-4-1 NESCAC).
 
Game Highlights
  • Amherst struck first with a shorthanded tally 8:29 into the game.
  • Four minutes later, following a scramble in front of the net, Bobby Pearl wristed a shot from the slot to top left corner to tie the game 1-1.
  • Bowdoin took its first lead of the game with under two minutes left in the first period. Jimmy Duffy found Patrick Callahan for a slap shot from high. The rebound kicked directly to the stick of Chris Brown who slipped it past a sliding goalie.
  • Amherst forced overtime with 1:35 remaining in regulation off a cross-ice one-timer by Matteo Mangiardi.
  • Alex Kozic made a pair of key overtime saves to preserve the tie. Bowdoin gained a late power play with under a minute to go but couldn't produce a game-winner.
 
By the Numbers
  • Amherst went 0-for-5 on the power play. Bowdoin was 0-for-3.
  • Kozic made 41 stops for Bowdoin, including four in overtime.
  • Connor Leslie made 34 saves for the Mammoths.
