Trinity Holds Off Cold-Shooting Polar Bears in Women's Basketball Setback

BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Trinity College women's basketball team needed overtime, but held off Bowdoin 60-57 for their first win over the Polar Bears since 2013 on Friday evening in Morrell Gymnasium. The Polar Bears fall to 10-3 (0-1 NESCAC) while the Bantams improve to 8-3 (1-0 NESCAC).

Game Highlights
  • Both teams needed to shake off the rust in the opening half, as the squads combined to shoot 24% from the field, with the Bantams holding a slim 28-23 lead at intermission.
  • The Bantams would stretch that lead to as many as 11 points in the third quarter before Bowdoin closed the period on a 12-2 run, capped by a Sydney Jones layup at the buzzer to trim the lead to 38-37 entering the fourth.
  • Trinity again stretched the lead to seven points, 48-41, with 4:20 to go, before another late run by the Polar Bears tied the game on another running basket by Jones, forcing overtime at 52 apiece.
  • Bailey Hyland led the way with five points for Trinity in the overtime session, as the Bantams never trailed en route to the win.
