BRUNSWICK, Maine –
Albert Washco scored in overtime to lift the Bowdoin men's ice hockey team to a 2022 opening win over visiting Middlebury on Tuesday afternoon with a final score of 1-0.
The Polar Bears (2-4-1, 2-2-0 NESCAC) earned their second consecutive overtime victory after closing out the first semester with a 3-2 victory at Tufts in 3-on-3 action. The Panthers collect their first NESCAC point of the season and sit at 1-4-0 (0-3-0 NESCAC). Bowdoin is riding its longest win streak against the Panthers, stringing together three straight victories.
Game Highlights
- Early in the first period, Will Forrest nearly put away a short-handed tally from the doorstep to give Bowdoin a lead. Jake Horoho made one of his many point-blank saves to keep the Panthers tied.
- Andy Stoneman made a promising rush down the left side and found Will Van der Veen on the far post, but Van der Veen missed just wide.
- Middlebury ramped up pressure in the second and third frames, pinning Alex Kozic with multiple series of shots and rebounds. Midway through the final 20 minutes, Andrej Hromic mishandled a wide open centering pass off a quick transition play out of Middlebury's zone.
- Skating 3-on-3, Joe Alexander and Chris Brown cycled the puck to Washco coming down the slot for a one-timer to the right post.
