Middlebury Forces Overtime as Men's Hockey Earns 2-2 Tie

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – The Bowdoin men's hockey team skated to a 2-2 overtime tie at Middlebury on Friday night.
 
The Polar Bears improve to 4-5-4 (4-3-3 NESCAC), while the Panthers sit at 1-7-2 (0-6-1 NESCAC).
 
Game Highlights
  • Bowdoin converted on a power play with 5:31 remaining in the first period. Luke Wheeler cycled the puck to Graham Rutledge in the slot who slipped a feed to Joe Alexander on the left dot. Alexander teed up a one-timer and put Bowdoin ahead.
  • Middlebury evened the game 1:06 into the second. Jack Clarner took a shot from the right point that skipped off the pads of Alex Kozic and found Zach Shapiro on the far post. Shapiro deposited the puck to make it 1-1.
  • The Polar Bears regained the lead five minutes later, again off the stick of Alexander. Andy Stoneman controlled the puck on the far side of the left circle and connected with Alexander in the slot. Alexander wristed a shot from straight on to tally his second of the day on a power play.
  • Middlebury forced eventual overtime with an equalizer 7:38 into the third.
 
By the Numbers
  • Bowdoin went 2-for-7 on the power play. The Panthers were 0-for-6 on the power play.
  • Kozic continued his strong play in net for Bowdoin with a 36 save performance.
  • Jake Horoho made 19 saves for Middlebury.
