Men's Basketball Caps Busy Week With Road Win at Conn College

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Bowdoin College men's basketball team capped a busy six-day stretch with an impressive 76-72 win at Connecticut College on Wednesday afternoon. The Polar Bears, playing their fourth game in six days, snap a three-game losing streak and improve to 10-7 (1-3 NESCAC) while the Camels fall to 6-6 (1-2 NESCAC).
 
Game Highlights
  • After trading buckets in the early going, Bowdoin took the lead for good just three minutes into the game and never relinquished the lead.
  • An 11-4 Bowdoin run, featuring four points from Xander Werkman and a three-pointer from Manav Randhawa gave the Polar Bears a 15-7 lead that they would extend to as many as 11 points in the opening half.
  • Bowdoin carried a 36-29 lead into the break thanks to 60% shooting from the field and ten first-half points from James McGowan.
  • The camels came out firing in the second half, using an 11-5 run to close the gap to a single point. The Camels trimmed Bowdoin's lead to one on a pair of occasions, but Bowdoin answered every time, clinging to the lead throughout the second half.
  • An 12-5 Bowdoin run midway through the frame, keyed by a pair of buckets from Jack Shea, regained the double-digit cushion.
  • The Polar Bears made seven of their final eight shots from the field in the final eight minutes to put the game away.

  • Taiga Kagitomi led a balanced Bowdoin effort, scoring 18 points with eight rebounds and five assists for the Polar Bears.
  • Afamdi Achufusi had 13 points and five caroms while James McGowan and Xander Werkman had 12 points apiece in the win.
  • Bowdoin finished a 57% shooting for the game while Conn College ended at 49%. The Polar Bears held a 31-30 edge in rebounding.
  • The Polar Bears hit 19-28 from the free throw line, with many coming down the stretch to seal the game. The Camels connected on just 8-20 for the afternoon.
