Surgenor Nets Overtime Game Winner in Women's Hockey Sweep of Camels

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Julia Surgenor scored midway through overtime to lift the Bowdoin women's hockey team to a 3-2 win and sweep at Connecticut College.
 
The Polar Bears improve to 9-5-0 (5-5-0 NESCAC) and keep the Camels (4-8-2, 0-7-0 NESCAC) winless in conference play.
 
Game Highlights
  • Bowdoin took its first lead of the game midway through the opening period. Angelina Joyce received a feed from Surgenor in the slot and took a quick shot.
  • Connecticut College evened the game on a power play goal two minutes later. Rylie Griffith took a shot from the high slot and watched a rebound kick left. Melissa Alexander put the puck away from the post.
  • Allie Britt regained the lead for Bowdoin six minutes into the final frame. Britt jammed the puck in on the left post, finishing off a scrum.
  • Again the Camels responded within minutes on the power play. Melanie Conca made a low angle pass from the left side to the far post for Natalie Witowski.
  • Surgenor ended the game in overtime. The senior skated in along the right boards and patiently controlled the puck and drew the goalie. After Carly Denora and committed to the play, Surgenor handled around the pads and deposited the game-winner.
 
By the Numbers
  • The Camels were 2-for-5 on the power play.
  • Bowdoin went 0-for-3 with the extra skater.
  • Dani Marquez made 16 stops for the Polar Bears
  • Denora made 28 saves.
