Panthers Pull Away Late in Men's Basketball Loss

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Middlebury College men's basketball team used a late run to pull away from Bowdoin in a 78-64 win on Saturday afternoon at Morrell Gymnasium. The Polar Bears fall to 9-6 (0-2 NESCAC) while the Panthers improve to 13-2 (4-0 NESCAC).
 
Game Highlights
  • The Panthers held the lead for the majority of the contest, but couldn't put the Polar Bears away until late in the second half.
  • Middlebury owned a 35-28 lead at the break thanks to 13 first-half points from Nate Osher.
  • The Panthers quickly pushed the lead to double-digits out of the break and still held a nine-point edge, 48-39, with 12:12 to go in the game.
  • Bowdoin used a 9-2 run, sparked by four straight points from Jack Shea, to climb to within two points, 50-48, with 9:18 to go.
  • The Polar Bears climbed to within a single point, 53-52, three minutes later, and had a pair of possessions but failed to take the lead.
  • Keyed by three-pointers from Osher and Sam Stevens, Middlebury rolled off a game-deciding 11-0 run over the span of three minutes, extending their lead to 70-56 with 2:08 remaining to put the contest away.
By The Numbers
  • Noah Osher finished with a game-high 27 points to lead the Panthers while Sam Stevens pitched in 23 with eight rebounds.
  • Bowdoin was led by 13 points from Taiga Kagitomi and 12 from Manav Randhawa. Xander Werkman (11) and James McGowan (10) also saw double digits.
  • Bowdoin finished at 35% shooting for the game as Middlebury connected on 49% from the field and went 7-15 from three-point range compared to just 5-25 for the Polar Bears.

  • Bowdoin will return to action on Tuesday afternoon when they travel to Connecticut to play at Trinity at 3:00 p.m. in a game rescheduled from January 7.
