Women's Soccer Back to Winning Ways in Mid-Week Win Over Babson

BRUNSWICK, Maine – Rachael Peacock scored a pair of goals to lead the Bowdoin College women's soccer team to a 3-1 non-conference win over Babson on Tuesday afternoon at Pickard Field. The Polar Bears improve to 5-3-0 on the season with the win while the Beavers drop to 4-4-1 overall.

Match Highlights
  • Bowdoin controlled the pace of play in the early going and cashed in at the 19th minute when a corner kick led to a scrum in front of the Babson net. A loose call came to the foot of Julia Adelman, who ripped it inside the right post for a 1-0 Polar Bear lead.
  • Bowdoin maintained their one-goal edge into halftime, finishing the opening stanza with a 7-1 shot advantage.
  • The Polar Bears doubled their lead in the 52nd minute, when Lynn Farquhar collected a high ball just outside the box and lofted a perfectly-placed feed to Peacock in the middle of the box, who tapped it inside the left post for a 2-0 advantage.
  • Babson closed the gap in the 63rd minute after a restart at midfield when Jordyn Ferrantino drove a free kick that impossibly slipped through traffic to the left side of the box, where Sophia Bishop ripped it into the net to cut Bowdoin's lead in half.
  • The Polar Bears withstood the Beaver rally, however, and got an insurance goal in the 83rd minute when a great individual effort on the left wing by Peacock beat her defender into the open, and toed home her second tally of the game to seal the win.
By The Numbers
  • Bowdoin ended with a 16-5 edge in shots for the contest, and held a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.
  • Babson goaltender Morgan Fedosiewich stopped five shots for the Beavers while Alex Arndt (one save) and Penny Rocchio (three saves) split time for the Polar Bears.
  • The win is the first for Bowdoin over Babson since 2017, as the teams tied in 2018 and Babson earned a 1-0 win in 2019.
  • Bowdoin remained unbeaten all-time at home against the Beavers (8-0-3)
