Field Hockey Blows Past Blue on Wednesday Evening

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin field hockey team overpowered the Wellesley Blue in a 4-0 midweek matchup on Wednesday.
 
The Polar Bears did not allow a shot and improve to 3-2 on the season, as the Blue fall to 2-2.
 
Game Highlights
  • Bowdoin scored just over five minutes into the game. After working the ball in the left corner of the circle, Jill Cloonan found Bailey Prete in front of the net. Prete worked the ball past Wellesley's goalie for the 1-0 lead.
  • Claudia Kriz set up Bowdoin's second goal early in the second quarter. Kriz sent a ball from left to right in the circle, with Faith Jennings deflecting it as it passed, and Manveer Sandhu putting the deflection in from the far post.
  • Prete picked up her second goal of the game late in the second frame. After an initial shot and save off a penalty corner, Prete found a loose rebound and put the ball away.
  • With under a minute remaining in play, the Polar Bears tallied their fourth and final goal. Cloonan made a flat pass to Olivia Cunningham close to the goal face, allowing Cunningham to continue to the right and deposit her first collegiate tally.
 
By the Numbers
  • Bowdoin dominated offensively with a 25-0 edge in shots and 16-0 corner advantage.
  • Julia Arsenault picked up her first win and shutout in net for the Polar Bears.
  • Kyra Deehr-Lewis made 17 saves for the Blue.
