Top-Ranked Middlebury Defeats Field Hockey in Saturday Matchup

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – The top-ranked Middlebury field hockey team overpowered Bowdoin in a 3-1 NESCAC matchup on Saturday afternoon.
 
The Panthers climb to 4-0 (2-0 NESCAC), while the Polar Bears drop to 2-2 (1-2 NESCAC).
 
Game Highlights
  • The Panthers started the game's scoring with five minutes left in the first quarter. Danielle Brown tipped a shot by Erin Nicholas for the 1-0 lead.
  • Middlebury added another quick goal three minutes later as Nicholas flicked a shot over the right shoulder of Bowdoin's Maddie Ferrucci.
  • Ten minutes into the third quarter, Bowdoin finally broke through to make the score 2-1. Abby Bashaw crossed the ball from the far right side to Maya Malenfant on the opposite post. Malenfant one-timed the cross to best the Middlebury defense.
  • Nicholas tacked on another goal for the hosts with ten minutes remaining in play. Grace Murphy swept a ball to Nicholas who netted her eighth goal of the season.

  • Grace Harlan made two saves for the Panthers.
  • Ferrucci made 14 stops for the Polar Bears.
  • Middlebury held a 27-4 shot advantage and 15-1 edge in corners.
