Polar Bears Outshoot Panthers But Fall Short in Women's Soccer

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – The Bowdoin women's soccer team fell to host Middlebury 2-1 on Saturday afternoon.
 
The Polar Bears drop to 3-2-0 (0-2-0 NESCAC), while the Panthers climb to 4-1-0 (1-1-0 NESCAC).
 
Game Highlights
  • Middlebury took a 1-0 lead just 5:39 into the contest with the first of the season from Eliza Robinson. Eliza Van Voorhis crossed a ball from the right side that Robinson settled, before firing a shot back across the goal face. The ball hit the post and ricocheted to the near post and into the side of the net.
  • Julia Adelmann's bid in the 25th minute was tipped over the crossbar by Middlebury's Sydney Poppinga.
  • The Panthers extended their lead at 68:11 as a corner kick by Emma Binks deflected off a defender and into the Polar Bears' own goal.
  • Bowdoin quickly responded less than a minute later. Lynn Farquhar finished off a free kick from Tess Huckaby with play beginning in the right corner.
 
By the Numbers
  • Bowdoin held a 15-8 edge in shots, while Middlebury had a slight 3-2 corner kick advantage.
  • Poppinga made five saves for the Panthers. Penny Rocchio made a pair of saves in the first half and Alex Arndt made three in the second.
