BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin field hockey team collected its first NESCAC win of the season in a 3-1 midweek matchup against Bates on Tuesday evening.
The Polar Bears (2-1, 1-1 NESCAC) have won 38 consecutive games against the Bobcats, dating back to 1986. Bates is 1-2 (0-2 NESCAC) on the season.
Game Highlights
- The Polar Bears struck first seven minutes into the second quarter. Faith Jennings worked the ball down the left and spun around back to the edge of the circle. Jennings centered a pass to Bailey Prete who put the ball away with a reverse sweep.
- Bates evened the score just 48 seconds into the third quarter. Following a corner, Anna Cote tracked down a rebound off a defender's stick and quickly pushed the ball to the near left post.
- Bowdoin responded nine minutes later as Abby Bashaw redirected an airborne ball into the cage.
- Jennings added an insurance goal three minutes into the final frame. Bashaw carried into the circle and swept the ball towards Jennings for a spinning goal.

- Bowdoin held a 14-6 shot advantage and 10-6 edge in corners.
- Maddie Ferrucci made three saves and Georgie Coetzer had a defensive save.
- Grace Biddle made five stops for Bates.
