BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin softball team swept Bates on Saturday afternoon with a pair of offensively powered games, winning 8-1 in game one and 15-3 in game two.
The Polar Bears are 4-6 (4-4 NESCAC East), while the Bobcats are1-9 (1-5 NESCAC East).
Game One Highlights
- Maddie Rouhana put Bowdoin on the board with an RBI double in the bottom of the first. With Rouhana on second, Katryna Dukehart blasted a homer to straight away center, giving Bowdoin the 3-0 lead.
- Rachel Liazos singled to right and created the opportunity for Cassidy Musco to score on a resulting error.
- Bowdoin scored a pair of runs in the fifth. Angelina Mayers drove a single to right center, plating Lilly Armstrong and advancing Rpuhana to third. Rouhana quickly scored on a wild pitch.
- Rouhana capped the game for Bowdoin with a three-run homer to left in the sixth inning.
- Caroline Bass was the lone Bobcat with multiple hits, while the team tallied eight total.
- Ruby Siltanen pitched the complete game for Bowdoin with two walks and eight strikeouts.
- Payton Buxton suffered the loss, allowing 11 hits with two walks and three K's.
Game Two Highlights
- Armstrong hit a leadoff homer to begin game two.
- Caroline Sablone had her first RBI of the day, in the second, with a single up the middle. Armstrong plated Sablone with a double to center and Rouhana added a two-run single through the left side.
- Dukehart rounded out the second inning scoring with an RBI double to left.
- The Polar Bears notched three more runs in the third, making it 9-0. Sablone tagged a two-run single to right and later scored on an error.
- Bates pushed two runs across the plate in the fourth with a pair of bases loaded walks.
- Bowdoin answered in the bottom half of the inning. Sablone had her fourth RBI of the game with a single down the right field line. Armstrong cracked off a three-run double and Kasey Cunningham had an RBI stand-up triple. Rouhana capped the inning, driving in Cunningham, with a single to left.
- Mary Collette sent a hard hit ball down the left field line and plated Lindsey Kim to conclude the game's scoring.
- Armstrong and Rouhana both went 3-for-4 at the plate, with Sablone going 3-for-3. Armstrong's hits were all for extra-bases, with two doubles and a homer.
- Abby Allen earned the win, walking five and striking out three.
- Danielle Polirer pitched three innings, surrendering 10 hits, with two walks and a strikeout. Jevan Sandhu pitched the final inning.
