BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin softball team wrapped up the abbreviated 2021 calendar with a Saturday split against Trinity.
The Polar Bears (5-7) dropped a 3-0 decision to the Bantams (5-10) in game one, but rebounded with a 14-7 win in game two.
Game One Highlights
- The game remained a scoreless pitchers duel into the fourth inning. Gillian Birk led off the inning with a double cranked down the left field line. Alex Chambers followed up with a double to left, plating the runner.
- Chambers advanced to third as Kennedy Rogers singled to the pitcher and scored on a sacrifice fly to center off the bat of Kaitlyn DeCapua.
- The Bantams scored the game's third and final run in the fifth inning. Chambers had her second RBI of the day with a single up the middle.
- Jordan Stephen allowed just four hits with a pair of strikeouts in the shutout.
- Ruby Siltanen allowed 11 hits while fanning two.
Game Two Highlights
- The teams traded the lead multiple times in the second game. Trinity scored first in the top of the opening inning on an RBI groundout by Jenna Thomas.
- Bowdoin responded with a three-run bottom half of the first. Andrea Dorsa hit an RBI single to shortstop and Katryna Dukehart drove in two runs with a single to center.
- The Bantams regained the lead with four runs in the second, beginning with a two-run single up the middle by DeCapua. A bases loaded walk by Birk pushed another runner across the plate. Thomas grounded out to short with the bases loaded to record an RBI.
- Siltanen and Maddie Rouhana tied the game at 5-5 in the second with a pair of RBI.
- Dukehart gave Bowdoin the lead in the third with a solo homerun to left.
- Trinity again took the lead in the next inning. Gianna Tito tagged an RBI single to left and Alyssa Gazivoda pushed a run home after getting hit by a pitch.
- Bowdoin exploded for six runs in the bottom of the fourth, to take its final lead of the game. Katelyn Cox recorded an RBI triple to right and scored on a single by Siltanen.
- Rouhana blasted her final career homerun over the right field fence to tally two more runs.
- Lilly Armstrong singled up the middle for two RBI and drove in two more runs in the sixth off a single through the right.
- Siltanen pitched the final 3.1 innings for Bowdoin to earn a win in her final pitching appearance. The senior allowed three hits with two strikeouts.
- Tiffany Stowers suffered the loss with three innings of work and nine hits allowed. Birk came in to pitch the remainder of the game, allowing two hits with six strikeouts.
