Women's Hoops Sprints To Quick Start, Cruises in Blowout of Colby

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin College women's basketball team bounced back from its first loss of the season to easily dismiss Colby in a 65-44 blowout on Saturday afternoon at Morrell Gymnasium.
 
The Polar Bears improve to 8-1 on the season while the Mules lose their first contest of the year and drop to 6-1.
 
Game Highlights
  • The Polar Bears jumped to a 17-0 lead out of the gate and never looked back, running away from the Mules in the eventual 21- point win.
  • Seven early points from Callie Godfrey and five from Sydney Jones sparked the Polar Bears to the early run from which Colby couldn't recover.
  • Bowdoin led by 20 at halftime, 38-18 as Godfrey scored seven more points in the second quarter to pace the Polar Bears.
  • Colby hit three consecutive three-pointers to open the third quarter, drawing to within 11 points, at 38-27, but Bowdoin quickly answered with an 11-0 run to push the lead back to 21 points.
  • The Polar Bears led by as many as 25 points in the fourth quarter on their way to the win.
By The Numbers
  • Callie Godfrey had a breakout game, scoring all 14 of her career-high points in the opening half to lead Bowdoin.
  • The Polar Bears used a stifling defensive effort, forcing 23 turnovers, holding the Mules to just 26% shooting and cashing in for 23 points off Colby miscues in the victory.
  • Bowdoin connected on 40% of their shots, and went 10-12 from the free throw line.
  • Megan Tan also saw double figures with 12 points  while Tori Beck had nine.
  • Keagan Dunbar had 13 points to lead Colby.
