Women's Hoops Runs Away From Farmington To Close Out First Semester

FARMINGTON, Maine – The Bowdoin College women's basketball team used a stellar defensive effort to close out their first semester with a 69-43 road win at the University of Maine-Farmington on Tuesday evening.
 
The 11th-ranked Polar Bears enter break with a record of 9-1 while the Beavers fall to 6-3 overall.
 
Game Highlights
  • For the second straight game, Bowdoin came out quickly, jumping to a 13-0 lead just over six minutes into the contest.
  • The Polar Bears shot 53% from the field in the second quarter as Sydney Jones scored eight points herself as Bowdoin entered halftime with a 34-20 advantage.
  • Bowdoin continued to roll in the second half, leading by double digits throughout and extending their lead to a game-high 26 points in the final minute of the contest.

  • Sydney Jones led all scorers with 19 points while also grabbing eight boards with four steals.
  • Sela Kay led a balanced Bowdoin offense behind Jones with a dozen points and five caroms, as the Polar Bears had ten different players dent the scoring column.
  • Charlotte Sweet had six rebounds, three steals and four points while Megan Tan had a team-high four assists.
  • Bowdoin finished at 42% shooting for the game while holding UMF to just 25% and scoring 24 points off 19 Beaver turnovers.

  • Bowdoin will return to action on January 1-2 when they host the Coastal Classic in Morrell Gymnasium. The Polar Bears will play UMass Boston at 3:00 p.m. on January 1 and Maine Maritime on January 2.
