WILLIMANTIC, Conn. – The Bowdoin College men's basketball team jumped to an early lead and never trailed in a 76-63 win over Bridgewater State University on the opening day of the Eastern Connecticut Holiday Tournament on Thursday evening.
The Polar Bears improve to 8-3 on the season with the win while the Bears fall to 2-9 overall. Bowdoin will face the host school, Eastern Connecticut State University, in the title game Friday at noon.
Game Highlights
- Three-pointers by Manav Randhawa and Michael Simonds boosted Bowdoin to a 10-3 lead out of the gate.
- The Polar Bears pushed the lead to double figures just 8:30 into the contest, as a Cole Hanin three-pointer gave Bowdoin a 21-9 advantage.
- Bowdoin led by as many as 16 in the first half, but settled for a 13-point edge at the break, 38-25.
- The Polar Bears led by as many as 24 points in the second half as Bridgewater could get no closer than 11 in the eventual Bowdoin win.

- A career-high 30 points by Michael Simonds propelled Bowdoin to the win as he hit eight three-pointers, tied for the third-most in program history in a single game.
- Afamdi Achufusi had 10 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists for the Polar Bears while Taiga Kagitomi posted eight points and eight boards in the win.
- Bowdoin finished at 41% shooting for the game and used a stellar defensive effort in the win, holding Bridgewater State to just 36% shooting and out-rebounding them 50-38.
