Polar Bears Can't Catch Mules in 2-1 Women's Hockey Loss

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin women's hockey team suffered a 2-1 NESCAC loss to visiting Colby on Friday evening.
 
The nationally-ranked Mules improve to 4-0-0 (3-0-0 NESCAC). The Polar Bears are still looking for their first conference win and fall to 2-3-0 (0-3-0 NESCAC).
 
Game Highlights
  • Colby scored the day's first goal 7:27 into the game. On the power play, Anna Staton controlled the puck on the right point. Staton swung the puck left to Jillian Mazzocca who sent a pass to the far post. Sadie Kuhn waited on the right pipe and tucked the puck just inside for a 1-0 lead.
  • Dani Marquez made a point blank save on a breakaway shot by Mazzocca minutes later.
  • Bowdoin tied the game up with under two minutes left in the first. Brett Stoddard pocked the puck out from a scrum to Peyton Mulhern who fired from the left point. Ally Thanassi deflected the puck as it came through the slot and put it past Nina Prunster.
  • Colby regained the lead 4:25 into the middle period. Lily Wisniewski intercepted a breakout pass in the Bowdoin zone and fired a shot towards net. Meg Rittenhouse cleaned up the loose puck on the left post and put the Mules ahead.
 
By the Numbers
  • The Mules went 1-for-3 on the power play as the Polar Bears were 0-for-3.
  • Prunster made 23 saves for Colby.
  • Marquez made 28 stops for Bowdoin.
