Women's Volleyball Rallies Past Amherst To Reach NESCAC Title Match

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin College volleyball team rallied for a dramatic 3-2 win over Amherst in the NESCAC Semifinals on Saturday at Morrell Gymnasium, advancing to Sunday's conference title match Sunday against the winner of Tufts/Wesleyan.
 
The Polar Bears improve to 21-4 while the Mammoths fall to 16-5 on the year.
 
Match Highlights
  • Bowdoin won in five sets by the score of 18-25, 25-18, 25-21, 16-25, 15-11.
  • The Mammoths came out the gate quickly, leading for most of the opening set and taking a 25-18 win to grab the early lead.
  • Bowdoin rebounded in the second, using an 11-3 run midway through the frame to take the lead they would never relinquish to even the score at one set apiece.
  • The Polar Bears extended their advantage with a 6-0 run in the third set, en route to a 25-21 lead, only to see Amherst bounce back with a dominating performance in the fourth, forcing a tiebreaker with a 25-16 win.
  • Amherst took a 3-1 lead early in the fifth set, but Bowdoin quickly evened the score with kills from Cori Gray and Jaida Hodge-Adams. The teams traded the lead until the score was tied at 10 apiece.
  • A kill by Allyson Hawkins sparked a match-ending 5-1 run for the Polar Bears, capped by a kill from Cori Gray to finish off the Mammoths.
By The Numbers
  • Bowdoin was led by 23 kills from Cori Gray, who also added five blocks and three service aces in the win.
  • Sophia Pahl finished with 16 kills and 20 digs while Jaida Hodge-Adams totaled 19 kills and 15 digs for the Polar Bears.
  • Ella Haugen recorded 59 assists and 24 digs while Maya White led Bowdoin with 27 digs.

  • Bowdoin will play the winner of Saturday's semifinal between Tufts and Wesleyan on Sunday at noon for the 2021 NESCAC Championship and an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
