Volleyball Sweeps Hamilton in NESCAC Opener, Hosts Amherst in Semifinals Saturday

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The top-seeded Bowdoin College women's volleyball team cruised to a NESCAC Quarterfinal win on Hamilton, 3-0, on Friday evening at Morrell Gymnasium.
 
The Polar Bears (20-4) advance to the semifinal round where they will battle fifth-seeded Amherst at 1:00 p.m. Saturday. The Continentals finish their year with a record of 7-13.
 
Match Highlights
  • Bowdoin closed out Hamilton by scores of 25-15, 25-17, 25-12 to advance.
  • The Polar Bears methodically pulled away in the opening set, using a 10-2 run to pull away en route to a 25-15 win.
  • Hamilton took an early lead in the second, only to see a 5-1 Bowdoin run retake the lead. With the Polar Bears clinging to a 17-15 lead late, an 8-2 surge to end the set gave Bowdoin a 2-0 overall edge.
  • Bowdoin dominated the third set to complete the sweep, closing it out on a kill from Allyson Hawkins.
By The Numbers
  • Cori Gray enjoyed a fantastic night, totaling ten kills against zero errors with four service aces and five blocks to lead Bowdoin.
  • Allyson Hawkins had eight kills and 14 digs while Jaida Hodge-Adams added six kills, three blocks and a team-high 15 digs.
  • Ella Haugen dished out 32 assists to spark the offense.
  • Kate Carman paced Hamilton with eight kills.
  • The 20th win of the season for Bowdoin gives the program three consecutive 20-win seasons and 20+ wins in eight of the last ten seasons.

  • Bowdoin faces Amherst in the NESCAC semifinals at 1:00 p.m. followed by Tufts and Wesleyan in the second semifinal at 3:30 p.m. Both games will be in Morrell Gymnasium and carried live on the Northeast Sports Network.
