Bowdoin Football Battles Bates in Final Home Game of Season Saturday

BOWDOIN vs. BATES
The Bowdoin College and Bates College football teams will play for the 123rd time in their series history on Saturday evening. The rivalry is the 10th-longest in Division III football and dates back to 1889. It will be the third night game in the history of Whittier Field.

DIGITAL PROGRAM
Beginning in the fall of 2021, the Bowdoin College Athletic Department will be making the change to digital game programs for all on-campus home events as part of an effort for a more sustainable campus, as well as providing up-to-the-minute information on game days. A limited number of roster sheets will be available for home football games. To view the digital program, with team photos, up-to-date statistics, links to live coverage and feature coverage, scan the QR code at the field or visit athletics.bowdoin.edu/programs

SENIOR NIGHT
Prior to the game, Bowdoin will honor its 14-member senior class in a ceremony beginning at approximately 5:15.

LAST WEEK
Bowdoin couldn't dig out of a fourth-quarter hole at Middlebury, falling 42-35. Bates lost the CBB opener at home against Colby, 10-2.

CBB UPDATE
With the win last week, Colby holds the early lead in chase of their third straight CBB crown. Bates will hope for a win over Bowdoin to help their prospects of a three-way tie in the rivalry, which last occurred in 2011. Bowdoin's last CBB title came back in 2010.

ABOUT THE POLAR BEARS
Bowdoin has established itself as one of the top offenses in the NESCAC in the last month, averaging 27.7 points/game since Andrew Boel became starting quarterback. Running back Andre Eden leads the NESCAC at 110.9 rushing yards/game while Boel ranks fourth in the league in passing yards (200.8) and third in passing touchdowns (11). Colton Fahey has vaulted into the top-five in the NESCAC in receiving yards (577) and is second in the conference with seven TD catches. The seven receiving touchdowns, with two games to play, have already tied the program's single-season mark set by Pat Noone in 2009. Defensively, Bowdoin will look to steady a unit that is allowing 28.7 points/game this year. Dan Fiore is averaging eight tackles per game, fifth in the conference.

SCOUTING THE BOBCATS
The Bobcat's lone win of the campaign came in week four against Tufts (33-10) but Bates has struggled offensively in most of their other contests, and have been outscored 172-84 in their six losses. The Bobcats are projected to be without starting quarterback senior Brendan Costa, who was injured last week against Colby. First-year Colton Bosselait is the likely starter, having completed seven passes for 72 yards against the Mules. When Bosselait drops back, he'll be looking for veteran receivers Sean Bryant and Derek Marino, who rank seventh and ninth respectively in the NESCAC in receiving yards per game. Defensively, Bates junior linebacker Tony Hooks leads the NESCAC in tackles with 77.

BOWDOIN vs. BATES - ALL TIME
The Bowdoin-Bates rivalry, at 122 games entering play on Saturday, is the 10th-longest in Division III, dating back to 1889 (a 62-0 Bowdoin win). The Polar Bears hold a 67-48-7 edge in the all-time series. Bates has won eight of the last nine meetings between the teams, but Bowdoin claimed the last matchup between the teams at Whittier Field (31-14 in 2018).
