Big First Half Leads Men's Hoops to Road Victory at UNE

BIDDEFORD, Maine – The Bowdoin College men's basketball team rolled to a 77-50 win at the University of New England on Tuesday evening.
 
The Polar Bears improve to 4-1 on the season while UNE drops to 1-6 this year.
 
Game Highlights
  • Bowdoin came out red hot, jumping to a 10-2 lead out of the gate thanks to three-point shots from Afamdi Achufusi and Michael Simonds.
  • The Polar Bears maintained their lead throughout the first half, but used a 13-4 run to close the half, pushing their advantage to 20 points, 42-22, at the break.
  • Bowdoin was never challenged in the second half, with their 27-point margin of victory being their largest lead of the night.

  • The Polar Bears shot 54% from the field in the first half and finished at 45% for the game, while holding UNE to 31% shooting.
  • Michael Simonds scored a game-high 21 points to go with ten rebounds in the victory, while Cole Hanin had 14 points, five boards and four assists.
  • Taiga Kagitomi (13 points) and James McGowan (11 points) both reached double figures while Xander Werkman had ten rebounds.
  • Bowdoin owned a massive 50-28 edge on the glass in the win and improves to 18-1 all-time against the Nor'easters.
