SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Bowdoin College men's basketball team rebounded from its first loss of the season Saturday to dispatch the University of Maine, Presque Isle on Sunday in the consolation game of the Western New England Tip-Off Tournament.
The Polar Bears improve to 3-1 on the season while the Owls drop to 1-5.
Game Highlights
- A back-and-forth first half saw the teams exchange the lead seven times before a late Bowdoin run gave the Polar Bears some breathing room heading into halftime.
- With Bowdoin owning a 31-27 lead with under seven minutes to go in the period, the Polar Bears rolled off an 8-0 run, capped by a James McGowan lay-up, to take a double-digit lead at the break, 39-29.
- The Owls got as close as five points early in the second half, but Bowdoin slowly pulled away, as Xander Werkman keyed a 10-2 stretch with eight points to push the lead back to double figures.
- Bowdoin pushed the lead to as many as 23 points en route to the win.

- Michael Simonds led Bowdoin with 19 points and eight rebounds while Xander Werkman scored 17 with eight caroms.
- In all, ten different Polar Bears scored in the victory.
- The Polar Bears only shot 39% from the field but made up for it by hitting 11-12 field goals, holding UMPI to 37% from the field, forcing 17 turnovers and dominating the glass by a 57-35 margin
