Women's Basketball Rallies From Fourth-Quarter Deficit To Defeat UNE

BIDDEFORD, Maine – Sydney Jones scored a game-high 23 points as the Bowdoin College women's basketball team dominated the fourth quarter of a 61-52 win at the University of New England on Sunday afternoon.
 
The 13th-ranked Polar Bears improve to 2-0 on the young season. The Nor'easters fall to 0-3 on the season. The game was the conclusion of the 2021 Nor'easter Tip-Off Classic hosted by UNE.
 
Game Highlights
  • Thanks to cold shooting in the first half by Bowdoin, UNE was able to carry a 29-22 lead at halftime.
  • Bowdoin trimmed the UNE lead to five points, 41-36, entering the fourth quarter before the Polar Bears made their game-deciding run.
  • Spurred by eight points from Jones, Bowdoin used a 10-2 run to take a one-point lead, 46-45, with 6:30 remaining.
  • Bowdoin would never trail again, as the Polar Bears found their offensive groove and connected on four three-pointers, scoring 25 points to UNE's 11 in the period and pulling away for the nine-point win.

  • Jones hit five three-pointers and scored 23 points to lead all scorers in the victory. Jones also grabbed nine rebounds and had four steals.
  • Annie Boasberg had 14 points and 12 boards for the Polar Bears, while also posting three blocks.
  • Tori Beck and Jai Duval had seven points each, including key buckets in the fourth quarter to seal the win.
  • Bowdoin owned a 55-35 edge in rebounding, and cashed in for 27 key second-chance points. They also forced 20 UNE turnovers and scored 19 points off the miscues.
