Bashaw Goal Carries Field Hockey Past Centre In NCAA Second Round

BALTIMORE, Md. – Abby Bashaw scored early in the second frame to lift the Bowdoin field hockey team to a 1-0 NCAA Second Round victory over Centre College on Saturday afternoon.

The Polar Bears climb to 16-4, while ending Centre's season at 15-4.

Game Highlights
  • Bowdoin's most promising bid of the opening quarter came in the final seconds. Manveer Sandhu carried the ball left to right and fired a shot on net. Sandhu quickly corralled the rebound and put a second shot on net, but again met the kicker of Sienna Joseph.
  • Four minutes into the second, Faith Jennings nearly broke the game open with a one-on-one going from left to right across the goal face. As Jennings moved left, Joseph laid out and made a last second stick save to keep the ball out.
  • Bowdoin went ahead 1-0 with 4:20 remaining in the frame. Jill Cloonan controlled the ball at the top right side of the circle and sent the ball towards stroke. Abby Bashaw deflected the ball as it streaked by and put it past Joseph.
  • Bowdoin had a pair of shots in the final frame, but overall, the final 30 minutes of play was spent in the midfield.
