BALTIMORE, Md. – The Johns Hopkins field hockey team ended Bowdoin's season in the regional finals with a 3-2 victory.
The Polar Bears season ends with a 16-5 mark. The loss to the Blue Jays (21-0) is Bowdoin's first loss to a non-NESCAC team since 2017.
Game Highlights
- On Bowdoin's third corner of the game, with five minutes remaining in the second quarter, Georgie Coezter drilled a shot into the net. The goal was waved off and the teams remained scoreless.
- The Blue Jays made their first significant offensive push in the final minutes. Sadie Abboud took a hard drive from just outside the stroke line, forcing Maddie Ferrucci to make a pointblank save.
- Hopkins' most promising play came as Izzy Thompson passed the ball across the goal face from left to right, but no one was there to finish the wide open play on the far side.
- The Blue Jays struck first with a successful penalty stroke 1:56 into the third quarter. Emily Amsden put an off speed ball just inside the left post.
- Hopkins added another quick goal off a penalty corner. Maddie Brown-Scherer received the ball on the insert and pulled right. Brown-Sherer made a behind the back pass back to her left for Abby Birk. Birk drove her shot inside the near corner for the 2-0 lead.
- The hosts made it three goals in six minutes as Tessa Erickson passed low to high for Birk. Birk drove home a shot from the right side.
- Bowdoin found its offense in the 52nd minute. Faith Jennings carried down the left side and found Manveer Sandhu in transition. Jennings hit Sandhu in stride who took a one touch shot to best Alexis Loder.
- Jennings scored 25 seconds later to make it a one goal game. Jennings won the ball off a defender on the left and scooped a shot over the heads of the defense and goalie to make it 3-2.
