Volleyball Extends Winning Streak With Pair of Five-Set Wins Saturday

BOSTON, Mass. – The Bowdoin College volleyball team survived a pair of five-set matches on Saturday to extend its winning streak, defeating Emerson 3-2 and Manhattanville 3-2 in two non-conference matches. Winners of five straight overall, the Polar Bears now stand at 17-4 this season.
 
Emerson Highlights
  • Bowdoin rallied from a 2-0 deficit to take a 20-25, 22-25, 25-16, 25-16, 16-14 win against the Lions of Ermerson in their morning match on Saturday.
  • The Polar Bears faced a match point, down 14-13 in the fifth, but three straight points, including a pair of Cori Gray kills lifted Bowdoin to the comeback win.
  • Gray finished with nine kills and four blocks in the match while Sophia Pahl put home a team-high 15 kills.
  • Ella Haugen had 34 assists and 16 digs while Allyson Hawkins recorded a team-high 23 digs in the win.
Manhattanville Highlights
  • In a back-and-forth contest, the Polar Bears prevailed 19-25, 25-22, 26-24, 20-25, 15-9 against the Valiants.
  • In the decisive fifth set, Bowdoin held a slim 9-8 lead before closing it out on a 6-1 run to take the victory.
  • Pahl had 16 kills and a team-high 23 digs to go with two aces for the Polar Bears while Allyson Hawkins also recorded 22 digs in the win.
  • Jaida Hodge-Adams had ten kills, four blocks and eight kills and Cori Gray had seven kills, four blocks and four service aces.
  • Ella Haugen had 30 assists and 11 digs in the match.
Up Next
  • Bowdoin will return to action next weekend, with eyes on cliching the top seed for the upcoming NESCAC Tournament. The Polar Bears will play at Colby on Friday night at 7:00 p.m. before heading to Bates on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. A pair of wins would assure Bowdoin of hosting the 2021 NESCAC Tournament the following weekend in Brunswick.
